What is SURFCAM?
SURFCAM has been an excellent general-purpose 2~5 Axis CAM programming
system for job shop and large corporation tool room use, i.e. for shops
machining other companies' products, working equally well with solid
model data, surface model data, 2D CAD data, or from blueprint. Similar
to a machinist's toolbox, SURFCAM contains numerous practical tools for
creating edit-free NC code, even when working with "dirty" CAD data.
4-Axis Mill Advanced Edition
Includes 3-Axis Advanced Edition and
Standard Features- Tilts the tool about any defined pivot axis for radial contouring support.
- Cut using a ball, taper ball, bull, taper bull, or square nose end mill over multiple surface groups.
- Project any 2-Axis toolpath onto a 3D surface and orient the cutter normal to the surface.
- Five different cut strategies to customize the cut types to the geometry to be cut.
- Four types of cut surface gouge checking strategies.
- Up to four individual groups of check surfaces with individual gouge check strategies, stock to leave and surface tolerance.
- Individually selectable leadin and leadout types that can be applied separately to links, gaps, entry, and exit moves from the cut.
- Swarf cut maintains contact with 3D doubly curved surfaces with the side of the tool with support for lead/lag tilting of the tool axis during the cut.
- Individual tool vector controls for thru, along cuve, thru point, normal to cut, and normal to lower curve cutting.
- Up to eight customizable lead in and lead out types for all 4-Axis cutting types eliminate toolpath editing.
- SURFCAM’s postprocessors handle all rotary table/head motion and inverse time Feedrate automatically.

5-Axis Cut follows the flow curves of doubly curved surfaces normal to the
surfaces being cut or you can use Lead/Lag/Side angle controls to tilt the tool
in the direction of cut. - 5-Axis Swarf keeps the flank of the tool parallel to 3D surfaces. SideAngle control allows you to tilt the tool from the tangent by a fixed amount to allow for a tapered tool side angle or to keep the side of the tool away from a deep wall for roughing. The programmer has full control over entry and exit motions.
- 5-Axis Cut and Swarf commands support advanced ThruPoint and WithinCurve tool axis control while maintaining a specified lead/lag/side angle. 5-Axis multi-surface Cut & Swarf support planar, spiral, or morph cutting between two curves or control surfaces while maintaining full gouge protection.
- 5-Axis Project - provides total gouge avoidance with a collection of tangent or non-tangent surfaces with ThruPoint, WithinCurve, or Lead/Lag/SideAngle tool axis control.
- 5-Axis Contour - positions the tool along a collection of doubly curved guide surfaces while providing gouge-free following of multiple non-tangent floor surfaces with ball, bull nose or square end mill, including support for a fixed side angle.
