Creating Splines from Surface Edges

Many times it is very handy to have a Spline that accurately represents the edge of a surface for construction purposes. SURFCAM has numerous capabilities for creating Splines from surfaces.

The procedure is as follows:

  1. Set your active color to something different that the color of the spline you wish to approximate.
  2. From the main menu, select Create-Spline-SurfaceSpline.
  3. Pick the “Boundary Curves” folder tab on the dialog box to set the system to generate the desired geometry. As you can see from this dialog box, there are many alternatives for Spline creation.

Notes:

  1. We recommend you set the “Broken Into Multiple” switch to avoid creating a single Spline around all four edges of the surface.

  2. The “All Boundary” vs. “Boundary Picked” vs. “Segment Picked” indicate how many Splines you will create. If you only need a single edge, then you should set the “Segment Picked” switch.
